Here are a few suggestions that will help to keep your fly rod looking great and performing at its best.

If there is plastic wrap on the cork handle, please remove it before using your rod so it does not trap moisture in the cork handle and damage it.

Assembling your rod:

·   Take the handle and 3rd section and push them together, lining up the color dots or guides ¼ of a turn off. Then push and twist the rod together to line up the dots and guides. Repeat with the tip and second sections. Then join the two top pieces with the two bottom pieces.

Breaking down your fly rod should be done in reverse order:

·   Remove the fly and reel in the line. Remove the top two sections from the bottom two sections by slightly twisting and then pulling the rod apart. Do not hold the rod guides to twist the sections apart. Then take all the other sections apart by slightly twisting and then pulling them apart.

TFO uses a Blank Over Ferrule design that allows a precise fit, and over time, the rod sections will continue to fit and hold tight. We do not recommend any lubrication on the self-tightening ferrules. Keep them clean and dry. Rub a cloth or your fingers over the male ferrule to remove any dust or dirt that can scratch the rod. Inspect the inside of the female ferrule and clean out any dirt with a Q-tip.

How to thread the fly line up the fly rod once it is assembled:

·   Pull about 4 meters (12’) of the line off the reel and fold over the fly line about 10 cm from the connection to the leader knot. Take the folded part of the fly line and thread it through the guides. This is more efficient than trying to thread the tip of the leader through the guides, which can easily fall back down through the rod and guides if released halfway up the rod.

·   Carefully supporting the top of the fly rod, pull the line out about 15 cm, then give the rod a cast. The leader and line will shoot out and finish going through the guides. This prevents you from pulling on the leader and catching the knots on the guides or over-bending the tip, trying to pull the leader back towards you.

To store your TFO fly rod:

.

·   Inspect the rod for nicks and scratches. These will be a weak point of the fly rod and can cause it to fail under the load of a cast or with a fish on.

·   Check the guides and handle for damage. Broken or damaged rod guides can cause fly line damage.

·   Fly hooks should be removed after each use and not hooked into the cork handle. This can cause the cork to be chipped and damaged.

·   Clean each section of the fly rod with a soft dry cloth to remove water, dirt or fish slime that may have built up during the day. We do not recommend cleaning the rod with any solvents or strong cleaning chemicals, just mild biodegradable soap on the rod and handle.

·   To store the rod put the tip section in the case or rod sox with the tip top up, followed by the 2nd & 3rd sections with the thin ends up and then insert the butt section with the handle facing up.

·   Do not add oils or sealants to the cork, as these can cause moisture to be trapped under the cork

·   Always travel with your fly rod in its case and out of the sun to prevent damage.

When walking with an assembled rod, hold the rod by the handle and point the rod tip behind you. This helps prevent the rod from breaking in the event of a stumble or snagging the forward-facing rod tip in the undergrowth.
